Ever since Google’s web browser Chrome was released last year, there has been a constant question that people have pestered Google with: when will there be a version of Chrome for Linux and the Mac?
Well the wait is finally over. Sort of. The search giant has released a buggy, crash-prone developmentversion of Chrome for Mac and Linux (download it here if you dare). Of course, most eager users will probably be very confused by the “DON’T DOWNLOAD THEM” warning Google added to this Chrome release.
In a blog post today, Google stated that they are releasing this version so that developers can play with the release, provide Google with bug reports, and help them solve issues. Google specifically stated the following:
“In order to get more feedback from developers, we have early developer channel versions of Google Chrome for Mac OS X and Linux, but whatever you do, please DON’T DOWNLOAD THEM! Unless of course you are a developer or take great pleasure in incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software.
How incomplete? So incomplete that, among other things , you won’t yet be able to view YouTube videos, change your privacy settings, set your default search provider, or even print.”
So let’s recap: crash-prone, lots of bugs, no Youtube, no privacy settings, AND no printing? We suggest avoiding this very, very developmental version of Chrome for Mac and Linux unless you aredying to try it out or just love being an early adopter. However, if you do take the plunge, let us know how insane your experience was in the comments
